Nothing Really Matters(?)

Analysis of Translations of Kafka's Metamorphosis: #1: Gregory Samsa woke from uneasy dreams one morning to find himself changed into a giant bug. This translation is the simplest, with nothing open to consideration through the author's individual words (compared to the other translations). The main character had uneasy dreams, and woke to find out that he changed into a "giant" bug. This is the least descriptive adjective of the size of this bug that he has transformed into, which I feel that since it's so simple, it loses some figurative appreciation. This translation is also a bit different with the name of what I would assume is the main character, Gregory. His name is different in this translation than all the rest, making it seem like the translation is the least reliable  towards grasping what the author originally meant to say. #2: When Gregor Samsa awoke from troubled dreams one morning he found he had been transformed in his bed into an enormous bug...

"A better way to talk about abortion" -Aspen Baker https://www.ted.com/talks/aspen_baker_a_better_way_to_talk_about_abortion/up-next#t-1176 ANALYSIS: Summary: Baker is an activist in the new "spectrum" she created with the term "pro-voice", and wanted to show that the division society creates with abortion (and almost anything else political) doesn't have to single out a person. She talked about the invention of "pro-voice", and how it was the first of its kind with abortion related topics. She created a calling service, kind of like an addiction network, that would just allow men and women to talk about their experiences with abortion, whether they had one or not. She hoped it would create a sort of safe-place for people to share their feelings toward the subject, as well as get emotional help. Since she created the hotline, she talked about what it means to be a good listener (the person receiving the call), as well as good storyt...

Don't HYDE from this Blog Post! (so clever)

HYDE: "He had in his hand a heavy cane, with which he was trifling; but he answered never a word, and seemed to listen with an ill-contained impatience. And then all of a sudden he broke out in a great flame of anger, stamping with his foot, brandishing the cane, and carrying on (as the maid described it) like a madman. The old gentleman took a step back, with the air of one very much surprised and a trifle hurt; and at that Mr. Hyde broke out of all bounds and clubbed him to the earth. And next moment, with ape-like fury, he was trampling his victim under foot and hailing down a storm of blows, under which the bones were audibly shattered and the body jumped upon the roadway. At the horror of these sights and sounds, the maid fainted." JEKYLL: "Now that that evil influence had been withdrawn, a new life began for Dr. Jekyll. He came out of his seclusion, renewed relations with his friends, became once more their familiar guest and entertainer; and whilst he had alwa...

Life is but a Netflix queue... TRUE

WHO RUNS THE WORLD?.....LADY MACBETH! My Netflix (and chill) suggestions for the big and bad, Lady M: Bound:  A movie about a woman whose boyfriend is a violent gangster. Violet and Caesar are entranced with their passionate love affair and decide to run away together, with two million dollars that they've stolen. This would be a great movie for Lady Macbeth because of her  ties with the blood-thirsty Macbeth. They love each other even through their problems and set-backs. During their killings, they stay true to one another and have each other's back (especially Lady Macbeth). I believe that Lady Macbeth would like the movie because she could relate to the main character and loving the "bad boy". How to Get Away with Murder:  When Annalise Keating and five of her students become involved in a murder case, they have to figure out a way that they don't get caught by the authorities. PERFECT for Lady Macbeth! She loves murder and always seems to find her...

4. How does the values of manhood differ in modern times? What do you think it takes to be a  good man ?  Explain how your views are like or unlike those in the play, using examples from the text. First I want to start off the response with MEN ARE TRASH!!! And I 100% do not want the few boys of IB (another piece of evidence that infers men are trash) to comment that "no we aren't" and "im not like the rest", because you ARE(except if your name is Danny). Okay to actually see my answer, keep reading!  In the play, masculinity is determined by one's stature and role in their society. Macbeth is seen as a great man, war hero (who faced an entire army), and (up till this point in the play) a loyal Thane. This is what makes up a valued man. Their ability to succeed requires them to be of royal stature, and to keep their name as king for a substantial amount of time. This is why Macbeth is so eager to kill Duncan, Banquo, etc.; he wants his legacy to...

I AM NOT A GOOD ARTIST PLEASE DON'T MAKE FUN OF ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MY DRAWING ACTUAL DRAWING Artist: Peter Binoit Title:   Still Life with Letter Pastries Date: 1615 Period/Culture/Context: This was painted in the 17th century, where still life paintings were very popular works of art. Binoit was a still-life painter during the Baroque era (period of artistic style that included motion). He was a German painter that worked on Frankfut am Main and Cologne; meaning he was a famous painter. Subject/Iconography: In the painting, a meal is shown with loaves of bread, olives, a type of meat, and what looks like white wine. The still life is normal and insignificant based on the time period. Most artists would set up food or a person, and paint what they see, giving as most detail as possible. When someone requested a still portrait, that usually meant they were of a higher status or were more wealthy than others. A still life with just food as the subject, was...
